The F4U Corsair was an American carrier based fighter aircraft that saw service during World War II. The Corsair entered service in large numbers with the US Navy in 1944 and quickly became one of the most capable carrier based fighter bombers of the War.
with its inverted gull wing design, the F4U Corsair is a distinctive and recognisable aircraft from the Second World War.
F4U-1 was the first to be mass-produced and it featured a characteristic framed canopy that was referred to as a "Birdcage." They were deployed to the Pacific in February 1943 and became feared by Japanese forces due to their speed and firepower. A night fighter version, designated F4U-2, was also created and featured a radar pod mounted near the wingtip of the right wing.
