If you are looking to build a model of a long serving and incredibly versatile plane then you can not do much better than the C-130 Hercules. The Hercules began production in 1956 and is still in use today making it the longest continuously produced military aircraft.
MC-130 is the designation for special mission aircraft operated by the United States Air Force Special Operations Command. The organisation is also known as AFSOC, which will save me some lengthy typing later. MC-130 missions are infiltration, exfiltration, resupply of special forces and air refueling of special operations helicopters and tilt-rotor aircraft.
The MC-130E is the 1st variant of this AFSOC range and served in the Vietnam war. 18 were created by modifying existing C-130 transport planes, 4 were lost but the remainder stayed in service for 40 years after. More proof of how successful and well made the C-130 Hercules has been.
